SPOKES - Weeks 1 - 4
In the first four weeks of SPOKES, students will have the opportunity to:
- Create a portfolio
- Complete basic skill modules, such as: Goal-Setting, Time Management, Money Management, Working Productively, etc.
- Prepare for the WorkKeys® Assessment using WIN Courseware
- Obtain a certificate in Computer Essential
- Work on general academic and career readiness skills (Create a Resume, Cover Letter, Thank You Letter and References)
- Practice interview skills in-depth
- Earn a Ready to Work and/or National Career Readiness Certificate
- Obtain certification in CPR, First Aid and AED
Customer Service - Weeks 5 - 8
In the Customer Service portion of the program, students will have the opportunity to:
- Earn two customer service certifications endorsed by the International Customer Service Association
- Gain basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office 2013 Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Obtain a variety of Technology Skills (3D Printing, Coding, iPads, Smartboard, Interactive Whiteboard, Google Cardboard, Lego Robotics, Raspberry Pi, QR Codes, Makey Makey and Document Cameras)
- Learn customer service skills and best practices
- Design Web-Based E-Portfolio and Business Cards
- Improve problem-solving abilities
- Focus on aspects of Social Media and Personal Branding
- Complete certification in Nutrition Course through WVU-P Extension Office
Intensive Job Search - Weeks 9 - 10
In the Intensive Job Search section of the program, students will have the opportunity to:
- Individualize resumes and update portfolios
- Take advantage of Internet and Computing Core (IC3) and Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification opportunities
- Complete a one-on-one job search
- Go out into the community for job searches
- Take career assessments
- Increase level of professionalism
